Tips for starting a second blog

Hello there everyone! It’s me, Liz!

Today I’m sharing my top tips for starting up a new blog. Whether it’s a personal blog or collab blog, these tips will be for everyone!

Oh and one little disclaimer this is more for starting a second blog, but these might help with your very first blog too!

First, let’s be honest, starting a new blog is tough. Like extremely hard. You have to choose a name, topic, design, then actually design it. Plus you have to juggle posting on that blog and your normal blog. (little self promo, if you need help designing you can submit a form on our design page!)

1. Start a collab blog instead of another one just with you

This tip may not work for everyone, but if you are a busy person then I highly suggest this. If you can’t post, then whoever you’re collaborating with can help keep the blog running. You could also open for a lot of guest posts.

2. Separate it from your first blog

What I mean by this is to post in a completely different category than your normal blog. For example: if I have a book blog, then I should start an art blog, instead of another book blog. To be completely honest with you, hardly anyone would want to read two different blogs by the same person about the same things. So try out something new for a theme!!

3. Make a posting schedule

If you want to stay active on two or more blogs you need a schedule. Even if it’s super rough like post once a month on this blog and once a week on this other blog. Otherwise, you’re going to end up posting either only on one blog or be very inactive. Remember a goal you should have is to keep up with your normal blog while adding in your second blog. This is also extremely important if it’s a collab blog, you don’t want 4 people posting in one day. 😂

4. Have time for your blog

Hold up! Before you create your new blog, think. Are you going to have time for this? Once the excitement goes away will you still have the motivation to continue this blog? Can you juggled this with school/work and your other blog? Once you start your followers are probably going to want more. If you realize that you don’t have time, but have a few posts you want to do, then you can either start a blog series on it or maybe guest post one of them on someone else’s blog! (just ask them, most bloggers will say yes!)

5. Spread the word!

If this is something you really want to do, tell everyone!! Blog tours are a great way, or if it’s a collab blog have everyone post about it on their blogs. Keep mentioning it, when you can, don’t be shouting out FOLLOW MY BLOG. Chances are people aren’t going to follow it if you do that, mainly because that’s just rude to say that. What I’m saying is if you get a good moment to squeeze it into a post, do so, but just make sure you aren’t obsessing over telling people.

My experience with blog series – 9 tips

Hey everyone!! It’s Liz, been a while! 😂 How are you guys doing?

Today I’m going to be chatting about blog series and my experience as the writer of them.

First off what is a blog series?

A blog series is a number of posts (usually 3 or more) that all connect. For example I’m doing a series called “Answering the webs most asked questions about ___”. All the posts are formatted the same, each post is just about a different subject.

Here are a few tips I have!

  1. Be passionate about the series

If you don’t love what you’re writing your best isn’t going to come through. In fact the more you love a post or series actually reflects to your readers and they love it more.

2. Look to see if your readers are enjoying it

Don’t look at the likes, most of the time bloggers like all the posts they read or skim. Look at the comments and see if people really like it or are asking for more. If you really love the series and your readers aren’t enjoying it keep writing it! Write what you enjoy, blogging shouldn’t be for followers or likes.

3. Take feedback and use it

Ask your readers if they like the series and what you can improve. Use that feedback. Feedback can be intimating sometimes, so try to use one small piece of advice at a time.

4. Ask for what your readers what next in the series

For example: In my “Answering the webs most asked questions about ___” series I ask what my readers what the next subject should be. In helps give you inspiration and you write what they want to read.

5. Keep a consistent theme

A series should not be “A clothes haul” and “Chapter 9 of my book”. Guys, that just doesn’t go together. 😂 Make sure your posts are linked together in a clear way. Don’t stress putting posts together, it should be an effortless mix.

6. Feel free to end the series

Sometimes your inspiration comes to a screeching halt. Ending a series doesn’t have to say in the post “this is the last post of this series.” You could just slow down with the posts or just stop. If you say it’s the end of the series then you can’t 👇🏻👇🏻

7. Take a break

This isn’t as drastic as ending a series. It can give you time to recollect your thoughts. Plus readers might be tired of the series and need a break just as much as you.

8. Link the posts

What I mean by this is not how I’ve been using the work “link”. I mean literally link them. At the beginning or end of the post have the links for the posts that come before that one. It can help readers easily find them, especially if context is needed.

9. If it’s a big series you can create a whole page on it

I personally have never done this, but lots of people do. Especially if it’s chapters for a book they are sharing. I have made a page to link all my deep posts, which is similar, but not the same. I’m not saying every series needs a page, but if you have a really long series then that can be nice. Just don’t do that with series that are only 3 or 4 posts.

How to Host a Blog Party

Hi guys! Welcome back to Living the Blogging Life 😄💙 I’m Maggie! Today I’ll be writing about about blog parties. (Thanks to Miriam for this post request!)

I’ve written this post in a question and answer format to provide you with the most straightforward advice!

So, what is a blog party?

A blog party is a virtual celebration hosted by a blogger!

How do you join/participate in a blog party?

Typically through the comments of the blog party post!

What’s the purpose of a blog party?

It can be to celebrate a milestone (blogging- or life-related), to bring other bloggers together, or to support/raise awareness about a project or cause! It can also be a combination of all these purposes 😊

How do you host a blog party?

Through a post on your blog! You can either give your readers a heads-up about when the party will take place so they will be sure to come, or you can share the blog party post whenever you’re ready and people will come as well.

You can include rules/guidelines (i.e. introduce yourselves in the comments, the party will start at this time and finish at this time, include some questions for party goers to answer, etc). You can also invite others to reblog the party post to spread the word about the fun!

It’s always a good idea to be regularly monitoring the party while it’s going on. I recommend doing this because…

  • some comments that are not spam will end up in the spam folder (usually when someone shares a link to their blog). So you have to fish those out so that they can attend your party!
  • some partyers might be unkind to each other. Depending on the rules you’ve outlined, it’s your job to uphold that code of conduct by monitoring comments!
  • some party-goers might in other ways break rules. So just watch the comments and make sure everyone’s being nice and making the party a fun occasion

How do you attend a blog party?

By reading the rules outlined in the party post, then joining the comment section! Typically everyone is invited to introduce themselves, provide a link to their blog, and share a bit about themselves. It’s also fun and usually encouraged for you to reach out to other people at the party! You can visit their blogs, or chat with them in the comments on the party post.

How long does a blog party last?

For as long as the party host has determined! It could last for a day, a week, or it could be an ongoing party. Usually the party ends when the host closes comments on that post, which then leaves all existing comments but makes any further discussion on the post unavailable.

How can you make a blog party fun?

By providing an objective and a celebratory atmosphere! In the party post itself, you can share pics of yummy food, links to songs and music people can listen to at the party, etc. As for objectives, you can…

  • challenge party-goers to write a certain post on their blog! (i.e. if it’s a ‘celebration of art blog party,’ you might invite commenters to share a post on their blogs showcasing their best artwork!)
  • encourage commenters to interact with everyone by visiting their blogs
  • invite them to compliment their fellow party-goers (one time I did a ‘kindness blog party’ and it really made everyone’s day!)

How can I host a blog party without stealing someone else’s idea?

Simply give credit where credit’s due! If you’ve been inspired to host a blog party because you saw a friend do one, you can mention their name in your party post and thank them for the inspiration. If you’d like to host a specific blog party on your blog that someone else has done (like how I gave the ‘kindness’ and ‘celebration of art’ blog party ideas), you can give credit for those ideas as well. It’s only stealing if you act like you came up with it.

Productivity Tips For Blogging💻

Hey everyone!! Welcome back to Living The Blogging Life! I’m Eesh from Bright Light Shine

This is my first post on LTBL. Thanks a lot to Maggie for making me come here

So today I’d be sharing some productivity tips for blogging, I hope they help you:)

Let’s get started!

1- Make a schedule for your blog posts- Yeah, so this means, you should have a schedule to post, like you can choose one day for eg- You choose Sunday to post, so you post on Sunday, it’s a really helpful tip I guess.

2- Schedule Your Posts- So as I said above that you should choose a day to post, this means- If you’re busy on Sunday or going somewhere out but you don’t want to break your schedule, you can simply schedule a post for Sunday, so it will automatically go live on Sunday.

3- Write a day prior- This tip says- You can write your post a day prior like if you make it scheduled for Sunday, write on Saturday, and check it, when it’s all done, you don’t need to worry and just relax.

4- Remove distractions- yes! This really happens to me. When I start writing, and my phone gets a message, I get distracted and do not know how the time goes. The easiest thing you can do is, keep your distraction away, for eg- its a phone, so keep your phone on silent or maybe switch it off.

5- Plan The Post- Plan your posts, maybe just on a paper, write important points, which you need to cover in the post, or maybe make a thinking map, When I start writing my post and just plan it in my mind, I sometimes forget the points, so I write it on a paper or on word doc. And just cover it up accordingly.

is not in line with the way you’re blogging.

But that doesn’t make sense, you think.
I just published a post – shouldn’t I be happy?

For whatever reason, you’re not.
But that’s okay!

In this post, I’ll help you discover your own personal blogging style!

Hello!! I’m so happy you’re here! This is Maggie with you today, one of the writers on the LTBL team.

If you’re unfamiliar with our website, Living the Blogging Life is the cool place where my friends and I share blogging tips and advice to encourage others on their respective blogging journeys! 😊💙

We took an impromptu posting break in the second half of March (and hey, maybe we can discuss that topic in an upcoming post hehe), but I’m back today with some advice I’d love to share with you.

I have been learning about my personal blogging personality recently! Are you wondering what that is?

Your blogging personality (or style) is simply when the way you blog matches your personality!

Surprisingly enough, it’s very easy as a blogger to predetermine the way you want to approach post-writing and making schedules (or lack thereof). It sounds like a good plan, but it might actually be an uncomfortable fit for you.

For example, maybe you’re committed to posting four times a week, and you’ve been holding yourself to that goal for a few months. However, what you’d actually love to do is post five times a week then one post on Sunday bi-weekly (wow that’s very specific 😂)!

You might find yourself resenting blogging simply because your goals are not accommodating your desires.

In this post, I’ll offer you some questions you can answer that will hopefully spark inspiration!

Evaluating your blogging habits and realigning them with your short- and long-term goals is SUPER beneficial. I would totally recommend it!

Now you may be someone who’s very comfortable with the way you’re blogging, and that’s awesome! 🙌 You might still like to check out the questions below to find out how good of a job you’re doing. 😉 hehe it’s totally up to you!

Ooh one other thing: I recently did a personality series on my blog, and I’d really recommend checking out one of those posts specifically! The one called ‘judging VS prospecting’ is about the two main ways people approach their life! The first loves knowing what to expect in their routines and plans, and the second type loves keeping an open schedule to accommodate opportunities and new ideas. By discovering which type you are, it can really help you begin understanding how to blog in a way you absolutely love! 💕

Questions for Finding Your
Blogging Style

1. Do I like having a fixed number of days I post each week,
OR would I prefer having a flexible weekly plan?

2. Do I like publishing posts the day I finish them,
OR is it more fun to schedule them?

3. Do I enjoy writing about a few specific topics,
OR would I prefer sharing content on many different subjects?

4. Do I like it when I announce my blogging plans
so my friends can keep me accountable,
OR am I more comfortable when I keep my goals to myself?

5. Am I blogging in a way that’s in line with my goals,
OR do I need to reevaluate my blog plans/posting habits?

If you’ve made it this far, thank you!! 😂 by the way, it’s totally fine and normal to not have a solid answer to the questions above. Just take some time (maybe a few days or weeks) to try stuff out, blog different ways and see how you feel about them, and get acquainted with how you love blogging the most!

Tips for Coming Up With Post Ideas When Your Blogging Spark is Fizzling

Picture this:
it’s the middle of the summer,
and you’re sitting around a campfire
with your closest friends.

Good! You guys have just finished
roasting marshmallows and,
surrounded by cheerful conversation,
you watch the flames die down.

You’re fine with this,
because it’s part of the process.
The party has been had,
and the grand finale is, ironically,
the fun coming to an end.

The white embers and
soft warmth from the heart
of the fire slowly fades.

Now, let’s consider another fire –
the kind you keep coming back to
every single day.

It keeps you alive during the winter
and helps you cook your dinner.

What if this fire went out?
There wouldn’t be much of a
finale to be had, would there?

You don’t let this fire go out.
You stoke it. You fan it.
You gather more wood.
You’re invested in its life.

Your blogging spark is worth
this kind of attention, too!

Hello! It’s so nice to see you again! 🧡 and hey, if it’s your first time here, we’re glad to have you! This website is a place where my friends and I sharing our blogging tips and experiences 😄

Today I thought I’d write about – wait! I haven’t introduced myself 😂 I’m Maggie, one of the writers here. Blogging is my favorite hobby and helping others is my absolute passion! 🔥 (to learn more about our team, check out this page)

I recently had an inspiration fizzle in my own blogging life. It’s very discouraging at first because it feels like the more you try to get re-inspired (😂), the less capable you feel to even write posts! The blank draft looks more and more hopeless, and it can get bad real quick.

You start remembering bits and pieces of awesome posts you came up with, then didn’t get around to writing. Where did they go? And why didn’t I just write them down or put them in a draft? All the normal places you go for inspiration (click here for the blogging inspo post I wrote!) just don’t seem to be inspiring anymore. Is it you? Is it your blog? Is it your fizzling blogging spark itself that’s the problem? The deeper you get into it, the less you know. 🙃😂

So, what do you do when that happens? Today I’ll chat about what I did! Because I feel really excited to blog again, and I have lots of new ideas frequently 😍❤️

Tips for Coming Up With
Post Ideas When Your
Blogging Spark is Fizzling

1. Keep an eye out for those lost post ideas of yours.

You know when you walk in a room and instantly forget what you went in there for? What do you do next? Give up?? Of course not – you’re not a quitter. You look around the room to see if anything brings the task back to you. If that doesn’t work, you… retrace your steps!

So, pay attention to your surroundings! Whether that’s on others’ blogs or in your daily life, get actively involved in seeking inspiration. It’ll come back to you! (And even if all of them don’t, you’ll definitely pick up new ideas during this process!)

2. Check in with your blog categories.

Do you ever look at your categories and hope they’ll whisper inspiration in your ear? 😂 they don’t usually. Because of this, it can be helpful to merge categories, delete ones you’re not going to post in anymore, and make new categories! I’ll have separate categories for my post series, as well as different types of inspirational posts. When I make things more specific, it helps to remind me what I’ve written about without scrolling through all my published posts.

Don’t feel guilty about your neglected categories, or your popular ones. It’s great that you’ve gone with content within one topic that means a lot to you! Even when that means other categories get put on the back burner. (Or maybe they haven’t made it to the stove at all. 😂 how many fire references am I gonna make in this post)

If you do find some tiny categories you’d forgotten about, and they remind you of posts you’ve been meaning to write, that’s awesome!

3. Honor your unique blogging style!

When I get more serious about blogging (i.e. making a post schedule, buying a planner, etc), I tend to veer from the way I happily do things in favor of meeting some goal. But that ends up being uncomfortable! And I ultimately quit following that plan (and will probably need a blogging break to boot) since I wasn’t working with my blogging style.

What’s your blogging style, you say? It’s blogging in a way that YOU love the most! It takes a while to discover, and it can even change. Just evaluate when you get the most out of blogging. Here are some possible scenarios:

  • You feel the best about blogging when you write a post every Sunday, respond to comments on Tuesday, and read others’ posts on Thursday and Friday afternoons.
  • You get the most out of blogging when you post three times a week and read your friends’ blogs every day while you eat lunch.
  • You really enjoy blogging when you post twice a month, respond to comments on Mondays, and read others’ blogs on the weekends.

Those are absolute examples, by the way 😂 and things can differ for all of us depending on the week! But as a whole, you have developed patterns in the way you blog that make you the happiest. Do your best to honor those! And if you’re struggling in any area, look at the situation and tailor it to your wants and needs.

Today I’m sharing ways to help your blog reach more people! I’ve followed all of these tips and ideas myself and seen very positive results over the years. The tips can be tweaked to fit your niche, work with your blog, and accommodate your own personal blogging style!

Easy Ways to Help Your Blog
Reach A Wider Audience

1. Write posts of varying lengths!

This is a very easy one to incorporate into the way you write posts! When you share a post that’s 2k words, then a week later you write one that’s 300 words, then the following weekend you share some of your recent photography with minimal captions, you’re offering your audience a nice selection of posts to choose from!

Depending on the subject matter and how much time your readers are able to dedicate to reading your posts, you’re giving more people a chance to get a lot out of your content.

2. Expand your blog’s content to include more topics

This may not work for a blog with a very specific focus, but it’s something to consider if you’d like to reach more people! Think about your hobbies and interests, what you enjoy talking and thinking about, and you may just come up with some new category ideas. Find fun ways to fit your favorite things into your blogging niche!

By creating new categories and tagging your posts with new labels, you’ll spread the word about your blog through the Reader to a wider audience.

3. Share posts with varying formats

I really love it when a blogger writes posts with different formats! Here are some examples of types of posts:

  • list post
  • photography
  • quote collection
  • favorites
  • a tag/award
  • review
  • day in the life

Sharing posts with varying layouts and formats gives your blog versatility, intrigue, and it helps your audience get to know you better!

4. Involve other bloggers!

You can interview bloggers, write posts that were requested/recommended, collaborate with another blogger, do an award/tag and nominate people, or host a Question of the Day! (A blogger I know and fellow LTBL team member, Selina, does this on her blog often, which I really love!) People really enjoy getting involved, and I know how excited I get when I see my name/blog mentioned in someone else’s post! 😂💕

5. Continue to interact with your readers (especially on their blogs!)

This one may be obvious, but I’m going to include it anyway. 😉 When I’ve taken time off from reading blogs, I feel increasingly disconnected from my audience, because then the comments my posts get is a one-sided interaction from my commenters. While they may continue getting to know me through my posts, if I’m not interacting with them on their blogs, there’s not much room for a happy blogging friendship to flourish. So do the best you can to give back and support their blogs, too!

How To Swap Blog Buttons with Other Bloggers

One great way to spread the word
about your blog is
through blog buttons!

However,
the concept is a
little confusing at first.

A ‘Blog Buttons’ page? Swapping?
And how do you even make one?

With a bit of help
from a blogging friend,
you’ll be on your way to

button-swapping in no time!

Hello! We’re so glad you’re here! I’m Maggie, one of the writers on the Living the Blogging Life team. When I first started blogging, a friend of mine helped me to make a button and explained what ‘swapping’ them is! I really appreciated the guidance, so I want to pass on that information in this post. I hope it’s helpful for you!

To explain it briefly, a blog button is “a picture representing your blog that you swap with other bloggers”! Think of it as a free little advertisement for bloggers who mutually agree to display each others’ buttons on their blogs. 😄

So for example, if you wanted to exchange blog buttons with me, you would save my blog button’s image and put it up on your Blog Buttons page, along with the link to my blog! And I would update my Blog Buttons page with your blog button and your blog’s link so that others can find your blog through my page.

Here’s the step-by-step to getting your blog set up with a blog button and a page for others’!

How To Swap Blog Buttons
with Other Bloggers

1. Make a blog button!

You can do this on Canva (an awesome editing app/website) or another creative design platform! (One of our writers, Madeleine, shared a great tutorial here!) Customize it to display your blog’s name, link, and other designs that represent your personality and blog well. There’s no right or wrong way to make a blog button!

Alternately, if you’d like a bit of help with making your blog button, you can order one through a blog design service! There are different bloggers who can help you with graphics for free (just give credit to who helped you!). We have a page for ordering blog graphics here, which you’re welcome to check out!

2. Create a ‘Blog Buttons’ page for your blog.

Check out LTBL’s blog buttons page or my personal blog buttons page for ideas! You can call your page any number of things: ‘Blog Buttons,’ ‘Blogs I Love,’ ‘Swap Blog Buttons With Me,’ or whatever you’d like. As long as it gets the blog buttons point across, it’s good! 😀

Make sure that after you create the page, add it to your site’s Primary Menu! This will allow other bloggers to find it easily. To do this, go to Customizer > Menus > Primary, then under Add Items, press the ‘+’ sign and Add it to the Menu. 🙂

3. Reach out to other bloggers!

Just go to blogs run by bloggers you enjoy chatting with and see if they have their own Blog Buttons page! You can comment there and ask if they’re interested in swapping with you. Sometimes, if comments aren’t enabled for these pages (make sure you enable comments on your page under Quick Edit!), you can contact the blogger and ask if they’d like to swap.

To add someone else’s button to your page, just right-click on their blog button and save it to your computer. I like to name the image the blogger’s blog link to help me remember what URL to add to the photo! So for example, if I was adding Living the Blogging Life’s button to my page, I’d name it ‘livingtheblogginglife’ 🙂 When you’re editing your page, just add a photo (if you’re using the Block Editor, that would be the ‘Image’ block) and then click the chain button to add the blogger’s link!

to transfer your artwork
to your blog posts!

Hello and welcome back to Living the Blogging Life! My name’s Maggie, and I blog over at maggie’s doodles.

For the past few months, I’ve been learning how to add doodles to my posts in a visually-pleasing way, backed by a simple process for adding them. If it took me too long to draw, upload, and edit each doodle, it may discourage me from incorporating art into my blog. That’s why it’s important to me that the editing process is straightforward and fairly quick!

I’ve been using the app Superimpose to work with digital art since 2014. It was $1 in the App Store when I originally bought it, but since then the price might have changed! lol and there’s also a new app called Superimpose X, which you may want to check out as well!

The art editing tutorial I’ve shared in this post is not specific to Superimpose. You may be able to find another app or website with the same customization tools.

I love incorporating my doodles into my blog, so I hope these tips help you to share art on your own blog! ❤

Note: This tutorial works for me with handwriting, doodles made with markers, and doodles drawn with ink pens. I haven’t had success yet with drawings including colored pencils (as the app removes the color along with the paper background), and I haven’t tried this method with paintings. Let me know in the comments if you know how to add paintings and colored pencil drawings to your blog posts!

How I Add Artwork
to Blog Posts

1. Get the app Superimpose. (You can see how the app’s icon looks in the photo)

2. Take a picture of your artwork!

3. Open Superimpose.

4. Click ‘Import’ (in the top left corner) and choose ‘Pick color.’

5. Choose a 1:1 (square) white background and tap the check mark (top left corner). (You can pick another dimension if you wish – whatever best fits your art!)

6. Click ‘Import’ again and select ‘Import Foreground > Photos.’

7. Find the picture of your artwork and select ‘Choose.’ (You can crop around your art here, but I usually do it manually within the app. In fact, my way probably takes longer haha! *rethinks this*)

8. Tap ‘Mask’ (middle right on the bottom of the app).

9. Go to Settings (top right corner) and select the rectangle masking tool. (Again, you can eliminate most of this step by following my shortcut in Step 7 bahaha)

10. Remove the white space around your art by drawing a rectangle shape and double-tapping it.

11. Repeat this process until all that remains is your art!

12. Go back to masking tools and select the Magic Wand haha

13. Tap all of the off-white areas until all you have left is your doodle, sketch, handwriting, etc.!

14. You can save it like this, or go to ‘Transform’ (middle left on the bottom of the app) and adjust the size of the art by zooming in and out.

15. Go back to ‘Home’ (bottom left corner) and tap the box with an arrow pointing up. Export to Photos, or Mask as a PNG (which helps to remove as much white as possible)!

Answering Questions I Had As a New Blogger

Hey guys! Welcome back to LTBL! It’s lizziegrace here!!

It seems like forever since i’ve been on here! 😂

So, i started my blog, Above the Clouds, in September. Before that I had TONS of questions, even when I started my blog it took a while to learn all (well, not all) the tips and tricks.

Right before and right after i started blogging I made a list of my questions in my blogging notebook. Today i’ll be taking a look at them and answering them! A couple of them were ideas from D. So thank you!!

1. How long does it take to design a blog?

A while! It took me about 3 days my last blog update. It depends on your theme and how long you work each day on it. You can get help here with designing.

2. How many drafts do you have at a time?

I usually have 2-4 on the WordPress site/app. I know bloggers who limit to 1 and others who have 20. It all depends on your creativity at the moment or what you like.

3. Where do you write your posts?

I actually split them up. Sometimes at night i’ll get inspiration and write it in my notebook. Then i’ll type it up on my computer the next day. The other half of the time i’ll type it onto my computer or use my phone if i don’t have access. I’ve also used Voice Memos a couple of times.

4. How long does take to write a post?

It depends on the post. On average 30-45 minutes. Sometimes it’ll be spaced out between a couple days. Other times it takes 5 minutes. Others 3 hours!

5. How often should I post?

I don’t have a schedule but i try to post 1-3 times a week. You can change it up if you’re busy or do it more often if you have more time. Tip: if you write a lot at one time try scheduling some of them for busy times. That way you don’t just disappear.

6. Do I need to open up comments?

YES! Well, no. Personally I love commenting and responding to comments. I know lots of people like to know what people say. You can also make sure you have to approve comments before they hit the blog. Tip: If you add comments make sure to check the spam. Sometimes comments with links will go there.

7. Should i have any pages besides the blog page?

An about page. As the owner of a private blog when someone requests access to my blog the first thing i do is check their about page. It’s also a good way for readers to know who you are. I also have a contact page, in case anyone wants to do a collab post or guest post. Even a giveaway. A home page is nice for looks. A blog button page is really nice to point bloggers to other bloggers (see question 12 for more about blog buttons) Tip: Contact the LTBL design team to help make those pages.

8. Should my blog be private or public?

If you are blogging for views/followers/likes/money then public. If you are blogging for fun and you don’t mind the whole world seeing you then public. Go for private and you’ll be more safe, no random people can go look at your posts. Especially if you post personalish information. Now, if it’s private you won’t get as many followers but it is much safer. I feel way safer with my blog on private. It just depends on your comfort level and what you post.

9. What category should i post in?

I can’t tell you that! You can mix it up. You can have a baking blog or a DIY blog. I’m part of this blog which is a blogger help (?? i think ??) blog. I’m also part of a devotional/faith blog. My personal blog is all over the place!

10. Should I start with a collab blog or personal one?

Starting off i’m gonna say personal. The think is, with a collab blog things can get confusing, you might not have the same limitations or theme that you would have with your personal one. I wouldn’t join a collab until you get the basics of blogging and blog for a little while. Of course, there are some people who can jump right into a collab blog. So find what’s best for you.

11. What’s a ping back?

Oh boy! A ping back is when somebody adds the link from your blog post onto one of theirs (not a reblog). In the comment section it will give a link to the ping back (basically pings it back 😂). If I didn’t explain that well enough here’s with WordPress Support says: “A pingback is a type of comment that’s created when you link to another blog post where pingbacks are enabled. The best way to think about pingbacks is as remote comments: Person A posts something on his blog. Person B posts on her own blog, linking to Person A’s post.”. WARNING: If your blog is private it will not do this. Tip: This can be useful to know which posts are popular.

12. What’s a blog button? How do i get one?

The big question! Here’s an example of a blog button:

It’s a square or circular image that has the name, tag line, and/or link of/to your blog on it. You can design it in any way. (again the design team will help you with this). A blog button is kid of like the logo of your blog. Then you ask other bloggers to “swap”. “Swapping” is where you put their blog button on your blog and they will yours on their blog. Quite simple actually. Most bloggers have a page dedicated to this but some add it onto the About page or another one.
